Baked Hickory Smoked Ham

It's the weekend and Kevin wanted to make dinner for a change. We saw some nice looking hams in the grocery store and Kevin decided to make his famous baked hickory smoked ham. When the grandson of a butcher says he wants to cook up some ham, trust me, it will be good! Let me share with you a step by step guide to making this really yummy but easy dish.
First you have to remove the ham from it's packaging and clean it under clean running water. Pat it dry with a kitchen towel and set it aside.Next, cut two onions and potatoes. Make sure they are almost the same size. The onions and potatoes are used to line the bottom of the oven bag. It prevents the ham from burning at the bottom as well as help to retain moisture in the bag.

Now here is Kevin's secret to making great baked hams!

Yup, that's right! Sprite and dark brown sugar :D Mix some Sprite with dark brown sugar in a bowl and set aside.

Next, put some flour in the oven bag and toss it around. This will prevent the ham from sticking to the bag. Line the bottom of the bag with onions and potatoes. Rub the Sprite and brown sugar mixture all over the ham and place it in the bag. Put it in the 325F preheated oven and set the timer for 4 hours.

After 4 hours, remove ham from the oven bag and let it cool for at least 20 mins before carving. Doesn't it look good? The meat is so juicy and tender, it just drops off the bone and the skin is crispy and crunchy.

We had some steamed brussels sprouts with melted butter and herb pasta as sides to go with the ham.

It's really simple to make and we would usually have tons of leftovers that will last for days. We would make sandwiches, pastas, omelets or ham casseroles with the leftovers. I would sometimes make Maggi goreng, eat it with Nissin noodle soup or fry rice with it too. It's just so versatile, you can basically just make anything with it. The next time are looking to make baked ham, try this recipe. It's good :D
