Chocolate Covered Strawberries

I just love chocolate covered strawberries. Not only are they yummy to eat, but they are really pretty to look at too. Chocolate covered strawberries would usually cost a bomb if you buy them from gourmet speciality shops but in reality, its really cheap and easy to make at home.

Out of all the strawberries that we picked at the farm, I chose the biggest and reddest looking ones to use for this recipe. Just wash them under running water and pat them gently to dry. It's always important to make sure that the strawberries are really dry.

Next, pour some semi sweet chocolate chips into a microwave safe bowl. Add in a few drops of vegetable oil and melt it in the microwave. Make sure you don't 'over melt' the chocolate. Using a spoon, stir out all the lumps until the consistency is right.

Holding the cap of the strawberry, gently dip it into the melted chocolate. Twirl it around a few times and lift it up from the bowl.

Immediately dip the chocolate covered strawberries into a bowl of chopped nuts. I used chopped almond pieces. Coat the strawberries generously with nuts.

Place the strawberries on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper. Pop the cookie sheet into the refrigerator to allow the chocolate to harden. I made two types of chocolate covered strawberries, one with nuts and one without. Another option is to drizzle melted white chocolate over the chocolate covered strawberries instead of dipping them in nuts. Don't they look nice? I'm still amazed at how easy it is to make them. Try serving those at your next dinner party, I bet it will just kick it up a notch! ;P
