Roy Rogers Restaurant

We left Pittsburgh around noon yesterday after filling up the car with gas and our tummys with a snack from Giant Eagle. It was such a hot day yesterday, I think we prefer driving at night when it's way cooler. We made a few shorts stops along the way for restroom breaks as well as to get some super yummy Hershey Ice Cream! After driving for about 4 and a half hours, we decided to stop here for an early dinner.

Yup, that's right. Our quest for the best fried chicken continues, even when we are travelling. There are many Roy Rogers all along the way but we stopped at the last one on the PA Turnpike. Roy Rogers was first established in 1968 and their menu was simple. A choice of the Big Three; Hamburgers, Roast Beef Sandwiches or Fried Chicken. Of course they have now expanded their menu and they offer other types of sandwiches, chicken tenders, salads, 5 different sides to choose from as well as a breakfast menu.

We of course had to try the fried chicken. I ordered the meal number 6 ($6.89), which is two piece chicken which comes with a choice of side, biscuit and a drink. I chose fries as my side but I had the option of baked beans, mashed potatoes, baked potatoes or coleslaw.

Just like how I remember the fried chicken to be, it was super yummy! Really crispy on the outside and moist in the inside. I would rate it way up there with Popeyes and Chicken Galore. The biscuits were out of this world! Really buttery and good. I think it's one of the best biscuits I've ever had. Way better than Popeyes. It was a really good meal. Too bad there are no Roy Rogers near our apartment, we would have a drive out quite a distance for one. Oh well, sometimes good food is worth the drive :P We continued our journey after dinner and made it home at around 8pm. We made it in good time, considering all the stops we made along the way! :D
