Tean's Gourmet Curry Laksa

If you don't already know by now, I am a huge fan of Tean's Gourmet products. So far, I have tried quite a number of their instant curry paste/mix and found that they are really authentic tasting. Not only that, it's really simple to make and you can pretty much whip up an authentic tasting Malaysian dish in minutes, without any hassle!
When I was back in Malaysia, I bought a few packets of Tean's Gourmet Curry Laksa to bring back with me to the US. Last week, I was in the mood for some curry noodles but wasn't really keen to spend hours just trying to make something from scratch. So, it was the perfect time to whip out one of those Curry Laksa instant paste packets and try it out.
It's really simple and quick to make. Start off by boiling about 1500ml of water.
Once you have brought the water to a boil, add in the Curry Laksa paste.
Give it a good stir and add in about 150ml of thick coconut milk.
Next, drop in some fried tofu puffs. Allow it cook for a bit and the curry laksa soup is done! How easy was that? It took just about 15 minutes or so.
Now, it's time to prepare the noodles. Just blench some beansprouts, yellow noodles and rice noodles in the soup until it's cook. Do not overcook, it shouldn't take more than a minute.
Once that's done, place it in a big bowl. Add some slices of shredded chicken meat and cooked large shrimp (you can also add in some hard boiled eggs, fishballs and mint leaves) on top of the noodles. Pour the hot curry soup into the bowl of noodles and it's ready to be served! I must say that it tasted pretty awesome, especially for something that you can whip up in half an hour or less. Kudos Tean's Gourmet, you have done it again. Two thumbs up!

I love Tean Gourmet products too. Now you can get this product from most of the Asian supermarket in NYC

Hehehe yea, I usually get them from the Asian markets in Chinatown. However, since I was back in Malaysia and was stocking up on all my instant mixes and paste, I decided to pick up a few packets of Tean Gourmet paste too (it's also cheaper in Malaysia :P).

Okay totally off topic but I saw you went to the ranch and I go next weekend. I have an amazing Nikon D5000 and want to take it with me but not sure if it will be easy for me to carry around. I have a nice sling backpack for it but I just want to make sure with the activities and all if I'll actually get to use it or should I just take my little sony cybershot?

I would take both. I do not know what activities you are signed up for...but it would be a waste to leave the D5000 at home. You can probably use the sony if you are going for activities like horse riding, the cattledrive, hummers....activities that are more 'physical'. Other times, you should just use your D5000. Have fun at the Ranch, I'm sure you will!! :D

Hi Charlene,

I am from Penang. My daughter who is in California has asked me to get her some Tean's Gourmet paste for her when we visit her this November. Since you were from Pg, and said you bought some from Malaysia, can you please let me know where in Pg, can one get to buy Tean's Gourmet curry paste/prawn mee paste, etc.

Thanks very much. Enjoyed reading your blog. Keep it up.

Hello Chin

I'm glad you enjoy reading this blog! :D Actually, your daughter can order Tean's online here in the States from http://www.asiansupermarket365.com/. I didn't buy my Tean's from Penang but bought them in KL. However, I am very sure you can get them anywhere. I bought mine in TESCO and Carrefour.

I don't know if your daughter likes curry kapitan but the last time I was back in Penang, I found some really really authentic tasting curry kapitan paste from Him Heang. All you need to do is 'tumis' the paste then add chicken. You get really authentic Penang style curry kapitan in less than half an hour! Also, Lim Wah Thai has really good Bak Ku Teh spices. I would get that all the time too :D
